Sanuk: Sandals & Shoes for Outdoor Adventures or Relaxing at the Beach

Founded by a SoCal surfer,
the brand Sanuk grew out of a desire to "walk naturally" even when wearing shoes. Sanuks are less restrictive than traditional shoes because of the materials and construction. As a company, they focus on footwear that is fun, funky and functional and use natural materials like rubber, cotton canvas and hemp.

Their name is derived from the Thai work "Sanuk," which means fun and happiness. They create products that are relaxed and de-constructed allowing you to walk naturally, whether coming back from the beach or on your everyday commute. That idea of "walking naturally" is all about your foot interacting and reacting with the ground,  allowing it bend and flex, strengthening often neglected muscle groups and improving balance.

Sanuk wants you to truly "free your feet." By combing the benefits of barefoot, with the comfort of a shoe. Sanuk sandals, Yoga Slings and Sidewalk Surfers have a casual cool style that look good on anyone and are comfortable everywhere.

 Questions & Tips

Q: What does Sanuk mean?

It means "fun and happiness" in Thai.

Q: Are Sanuk shoes similar to "barefoot" shoes?

Sanuk shoes have a relaxed fit. They have a very soft and supportive Happy U sole, and a deconstructed upper that offer a snug and flexible grasp of your foot. This combination allows you to "walk naturally". Walking naturally is all about the foot interacting and reacting with the ground - allowing it to bend and flex, strengthening often neglected muscles, and improving balance.

Q: How do I clean my Sanuks?

It really depends on the material! For leather, spot clean with a leather cleaner. For non-leather shoes or sandals with a soft rubber sole, machine wash on cold with color-safe detergent. No dryer! Hard-bottom cloth-upper sandals like the Yoga Sling can be spot cleaned with simple soap and water. Do not put your Sanuk shoes in the dryer or use high heat.

Q: Why are some of Sanuks sandals labeled "vegan" or "vegetarian"?

If the product is described as "vegan" it contains no animal products. If the product is described as "vegetarian", the textile contains wool. None of our glues or other components or materials contain any animal ingredients.

Q: Do Sanuk shoes run true to size?

Sanuk shoes and sandals only come in whole sizes. The Sidewalk Surfer tends to run a half size small, and is intended to offer the foot some room to bend and flex, so it's worth considering sizing up if you're on the fence or normally wear a half size. The Sandals seem to be true to size, but we have had some customers report that these too run an little small, so when in doubt size up rather than down.
